Birthright was a hardcore band dedicated to the vegan straight edge philosophy, as well as to fighting sexism, racism, speciesism, homophobia and nationalism. Musically less metal-influenced than many of the bands from the genre, Birthright’s sound is more grounded in straight forward hardcore.
Cited as an important influence by such bands as Heaven Shall Burn, Maroon, Undying and Bleeding Through, Day Of Suffering successfully blended the brutal sound of hardcore and death metal to create a chain reaction that has spawned and influenced countless other metal-core bands since. With lyrics centering around human, earth and animal liberation by any means necessary, and their unrelenting metal onslaught, Day Of Suffering made a lasting mark on the hardcore music scene internationally.
Gather brought a little crust and a lot of thought into the 90's style hc - heavily influenced by bands such as Chokehold, Another Victim, and Culture. The band was explicit in their vegan straight edge belief system along with their radical politics, focusing on 'total liberation' and linking other political movements with animal liberation struggles.
They had a significant impact on the vegan straight edge scene world-wide, touring in the United States, Mexico and Europe.
Point of No Return was a vegan sxe band formed in '96 with the members from Self Conviction and Sight For Sore Eyes. The sound of Point of No Return has its influences from bands like Chokehold, Culture and Madball and with In-your-face lyrics that concern social/political matters.
RISEN was a political vegan straight edge-band from Indianapolis, formed after the breakup for Birthright. The band had three releases, an MCD, a split EP with Breaking Away, and a demo CD.
To Kill from were a hardcore powerhouse from Rome. Relentless and uncompromising, they were touring non-stop in Europe and building quite a name for themselves. In-your-face, energetic, and aggressive music.
Wolf Down are a German straight-edge metallic hardcore and metalcore band based out of the Ruhr in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. After the demise of Sink or Swim, former vocalist Larissa, guitarist Sven and former bassist Merlin formed Wolf Down in April of 2011. Common lyrical issues for the band include racism, sexism, homophobia, veganism and the straight-edge lifestyle.
